Encourage Effective Coping: For Those in Crisis and Ourselves, the "E" of SAFER-R is often focused on recommending exercise, healthy eating and talking to others. There is more!!!! What about laughter, heavy breathing, and massage....did this get your attention?? Learn new, and revisit old, stress reduction techniques which you can teach during the SAFER-R, the CMB, the Defusing, the CISD and use for yourself!!! As caregivers and crisis responders to others, how often do we truly utilize stress reduction? The adage of "Physician heal thyself" is true for CISM team members and Peer Support personnel. We are often the worst at taking care of ourselves, even though most of have are fit to do our jobs. We can be more effective and ready to respond to those in need when we have our own stress reduction and management plan. This presentation will explore a variety of evidenced-based stress reduction techniques which addresses the 5 domains of stress, behavioral, cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual.
