Rev. Dr. Crisis Response Care Bellville, Texas, United States
Resilience is an essential part of maintaining the ability to serve our peers and the public during critical events. As care providers and peer supporters, we have learned traditional and transitional, methods for building and maintaining resilience. What if resilience is inadequate for peer supporters, care providers, and chaplains? Some cultures have learned transformational ways to maintain stress hardiness as a way of life. One of the cultures that has maintained stress hardiness and is included in the Blue Zones of the world are the practitioners of the Japanese principles of Ikigai. When Ikigai becomes a habit of the heart, it transforms resilience into stress hardiness with the power of purpose.
