Lead Chaplain Life Line Chaplaincy Newtown, Connecticut, United States
This presentation addresses the reality of Moral Injury/Soul Trauma as it relates to its impact on first responders in the course of their daily responsibilities, as well as the potential for cumulative devastation. Regularly, first responders in general, and police officers specifically, deal with the reality of events and activities that are a gross violation of their moral codes. Handling cases involving the sexual abuse of children, parent/child murder/suicide, officer suicide, and the ambush/execution of officers can be devastating on levels far beyond mere emotions. When not recognized and addressed, the results can compound already existing levels of emotional trauma and lead to self-destructive activity.
