Using the core principles of crisis response, this program will critically evaluate team structures, responder selection, training, and best practices while considering the various methods of teams around the country. Critical thinking and discussion will be encouraged regarding follow-ups, cultures of empathy, and measures for team performance. Importantly, the program will discuss the most effective methods to justify crisis response services to decision makers in various organizations. All aspects of the field will be evaluated using philosophical techniques to consider whether service delivery stays consistent with stated values and fundamental ideas within the field. There will be a significant emphasis placed on suicide in the emergency response community and an evaluation of effective methodologies for addressing the rising suicide rate. Complex responses will be given in-depth evaluations and participants will be challenged to address their own blind spots and biases in the field. The workshop will equip participants with the ability to use engaged public philosophy techniques to advocate for robust crisis response services in their given arena and significantly improve their own organizations' service competencies.
