Responding to a death by suicide, whether a student's or a staff member's, in the school setting can be one of the most daunting of challenges facing any crisis team. Given the increased incidence of suicide resulting from the stresses related to the pandemic, the potential need for this type of response has been magnified. This presentation provides participants with a quick overview of the nature, context and general principles of responding to such an event. Special attention is given to suicide clusters and suicide contagion as it relates to adolescents. In addition, local, regional and national resources available to those providing support to the school community will be explored.
