On April 30, 2018, her husband Jeff, a firefighter, died in the line of duty. Several members of her CISM colleagues were present at the hospital during his resuscitation. When efforts were ceased, Lindi said, "something good needs to come from this, I'm not sure what it is, but something good must be done". Her journey, armed with a robust knowledge of CISM principles, resulted in a model of education and support for spouses experiencing line of duty death. This presentation presents an unprecedented perspective into the process of honoring their loved one, navigating the process of closing personal affairs, the grief journey, and emerging as a survivor. The presentation has valuable tools, pearls and lessons learned from survivors. can be utilized for recruit/spouse orientations or as adjunct knowledge for CISM team members supporting spouses and families experiencing line of duty death throughout the first five years. Regardless of the audience, pre-incident education and advanced planning considerations can reduce future regrets and poor decisions. Understanding procedures, resources, and choices throughout the line of duty death process can provide some sense of control and comfort through the journey. This presentation will outline suggestions on how to foster post-traumatic growth and resilience following line of duty death.
